Opelousas, LA – The Opelousas Chamber of Commerce was founded March 21, 1919, as an organization whose goal was to empower the small businesses in Opelousas Louisiana. Now, 100 years later, that same organization, now known as the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce, is preparing to celebrate a century of achieving that endeavor not just in Opelousas but throughout St. Landry Parish.
The year has begun with the announcement of their Centennial Gala Celebration which will be held March 22, 2019 at the Evangeline Downs Event Center. This “Great Gatsby” inspired celebration will feature live entertainment throughout the night include a full brass band. As is tradition for the Chamber, the event will also host the best in local food. In commemoration of the 100th year, artifacts from the many projects, events, and individuals that have influenced the Chamber since 1919 will be on display. According to Chamber CEO, Raquella Manuel, St. Landry Chamber’s Centennial Celebration will be unlike any event St. Landry Parish has ever seen.
“We want this event to truly be a party for every individual, business, and organization that has supported us for 100 years. We will take our guests back in time to the founding of our organization and ‘WOW’ them with entertainment that you would typically only find in some of the largest cities in the country.”
The Chamber also hopes to incorporate the 12 municipalities throughout the parish by incorporating their well-known food, community leaders, and even landmarks, throughout the event.
“This will be the can’t miss event of not just the year but the century,” said Manuel. “We are so proud of what our organization has become and looking forward to an unforgettable night.”
Tickets to the event have gone on sale and are available on the Chamber of Commerce website, www.stlandrychamber.com
